Swimming pools

All swimming pools and outdoor spas need to be registered with the NSW Government Swimming Pool Register. The register also enables a search of the compliance status of any private pool. Registering online is free of charge.

Alternatively, registration can be done at a Council Customer Service centre, by filling out the NSW Swimming Pool Registration Form. A printed version of the form must be presented, along with a printed version of the relevant self-assessment checklist (see below). Fees are payable for lodging over the counter.

Certificate of Compliance

To sell or rent a property, typically a Certificate of Compliance will be required to certify the swimming barrier is compliant. Some properties require recurring pool inspections such as multi-dwelling residences and tourist accommodation.

Note: Council can at any time require a pool inspection if there is reason to believe a pool or spa is not compliant.

Certificate of Exemption

The owner of any premises with a swimming pool may apply to Council for a Certificate of Exemption where pool barriers are deemed impractical or unreasonable. Exemptions are rare e.g. if it would not be practical to install a fence due to a rock face/cliff.

Fill out the Pool Barrier Exemption Request Form and submit it to Council. Council will be in touch to arrange an inspection time.
