Language assistance
Waverley is a vibrant community, in which community harmony, respect and diversity are celebrated. Council wants everyone who lives, works, studies in or visits Waverley to fully participate in community life.
Council offers support to people who prefer to communicate in a language other than English, including Auslan, so they can enjoy greater autonomy and independent access to information and services provided by Waverley Council.
Language Assistance Program
Our Language Assistance Program is a practical way of providing a culturally and linguistically appropriate service for clients from a non-English-speaking background.
Waverley Council employs multilingual staff who have been accredited to respond to basic enquiries from community members in Hebrew, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, thereby offering a better service experience. These staff are clearly identified with a badges in our customer-facing services.
Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS)
Where Language Assistants are not available, or for more complex enquiries, the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) can be used by members of the public to contact and communicate with Council staff.
When you ring TIS, state the language you require and you will be connected to an interpreter over the phone. If your matter is more complicated, lengthy (more than 15 minutes) or involves legal or technical terms, we can arrange an interpreter to attend an appointment with you to assist.
TIS is a free service that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Phone: 131 450. |
