Becoming an educator

As part of our commitment to providing quality care for families, Waverley Council is expanding its Family Day Care network of self-employed educators providing quality home-based early education and care for a maximum of four children (aged 0-5).

Becoming a Family Day Care educator is not just a job – it’s a rewarding career that offers flexibility, independence and the chance to make a meaningful impact on young lives.

To gain some insight into what it’s like to be a Family Day Care educator, read our interviews with two of our educators.

How to get started

Initial set up costs are low. Council can provide new educators with the tools to set up your new business, including:

  • Training;
  • Placement of children;
  • Administration;
  • Professional child development advice;
  • Personal visits and telephone support; and
  • Networking.

Waverley Council requires every educator to have (or be actively working towards) a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, which is available through TAFE NSW. This qualification opens doors to further career development in the child care sector.

Waverley’s educators must meet strict safety and workplace standards to ensure the highest level of care, with tailored education programs based on the Early Years Learning Framework.

Waverley Family Day Care is currently offered within the Waverley LGA, but we welcome applications from educators in surrounding suburbs.
