Services and support
There are many low-cost services older people and their carers can access. These services help people maintain their independence, health and wellbeing. Services include assistance with housework, shopping, meals, showering, home modification, transport, access to health and wellness services, social connections and fitness activities.
- My Aged Care – information and service access for eligible people over 65 years, call 1800 200 422.
- Seniors Rights Service – call 1800 424 079.
- Dementia Support Australia – call 1800 699 799.
- Dementia Advisory Service – Eastern Suburbs service provided by St Vincent’s Hospital, call 0416 144 100.
- Grief Australia – free grief, loss and bereavement support service, call 1800 642 066.
- Carer Gateway – information and support for carers, call 1800 422 773.
- Ageing and Disability Abuse Helpline – call 1800 628 221.
- Mill Hill 60+ – program for people aged 60+ based at the Mill Hill Centre, with a range of social, fitness and wellbeing activities.
- Active Seniors Program – drop-in classes for fit and healthy seniors at the Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre.
- Waverley Housing for Older People Program – low-cost housing for eligible people.
- Home Library Services – free service for eligible Waverley residents who have difficulty getting to the library or carrying books home.
- Carers parking permit – discount parking permit for carers of Waverley residents.
- National Relay Service – support for people with a hearing or speech impairment. For TTY/voice calls phone 133 677; for Speak & Listen phone 1300 555 727; for SMS Relay phone 0423 677 767.
- Translating and Interpreter Service (TIS) – free service available 24/7. Call 131 450.
