In NSW, local councils are responsible for the management of the local road network, including road funding, maintenance, and parking regulation .
In practice, transport is about much more than roads, with Councils also responsible for localised policy around how to best move people and goods around the Local Government Area. This includes everything from streetscape design, to footpaths and shared paths, sustainability, road safety and working with Transport for NSW and bus operators to improve public transport policy.
