Waverley Library's local history collection holds a wealth of information about the Waverley Local Government Area. Covering geological, Aboriginal, historical and contemporary aspects, it offers accessible resources for researchers, residents and visitors to explore Waverley’s iconic past and present.

The library’s archives include:

  • Photographs, maps, architectural plans, minutes and rate books;
  • Rare items including ostrich feathers, swimming costumes and more; and
  • Oral history collections.

Research services

If you want to delve into your family’s history, or research local history, Waverley Library’s local history experts can help! To submit your query or request for local history research assistance, complete the online form.

You can schedule an initial 30-minute consultation free of charge. For any additional appointments, extended consultations or specialised research needs, a fee will be charged:

  • Non-commercial local history research: $50 per hour
  • Commercial local history research (per hour): $100 per hour
