Join & borrow

Waverley Library membership is free to all NSW residents. Please bring identification with your name and current address, such as driver's license or a utility bill.

Joining online

If you would like a temporary membership you can join online. A temporary membership number and password will be displayed. This will allow you to immediately reserve items in the library catalogue and get access to our online resources and downloadable eBooks and magazines.

If you are unable to visit the library in person our Home Library Service offers free delivery of personally selected items fortnightly or monthly to housebound residents in the Waverley area. The service is also available for those residents who are unable to carry their loans home from the library.

What you can borrow

Members may borrow up to 30 items for a 3 week period.

  • These include books, CDs, DVDs and magazines.
  • Up to 5 Overdrive eBooks or eAudio books can be downloaded using the Libby app.
  • Unlimited e-magazines are available.
  • iPads available for three week loan period.
  • Up to 6 films for streaming per month using Kanopy.

Automatic renewal of items

Most items can be borrowed for three weeks and automatically be renewed up to three times provided the item has not been reserved by another member.
You can check what items you have on loan and their return dates through our Member Services.

Returning your items

Charges apply when overdue notices are sent to you, but with our automatic renewal options, most people find it easy to return items on time. Please remember that to be fair to all our members, keeping items overdue may prevent further borrowing.

During opening hours items should be returned via the Returns chutes inside the library.
There is also chute available next to the library entrance.

Reservations

If you’ve searched the library’s catalogue and found the item you want, you can reserve it online or call the library on 9083 8711. You will be notified when the item is available for pick-up.

If you are looking for an item that is not in our collection, we will endeavour to get it from another library for you on Inter-Library Loan Service.
If the item has been published within the last two years you can place a purchase request.

Fees & charges

Borrowers are responsible for any items issued to their membership. Damage or loss of items will require payment for repair or replacement.

Changes to membership

Please notify the Library of any changes to your membership such as change to your name, address or contact details.
