Joy Clayton - Liberal Party of Australia (2004 – 2017)

“We are there to make good decisions for the council and the community, not for political point scoring.”

Joy Clayton has lived all her life in Bondi. She was first elected to Council in 2004 and has been active on Council serving on numerous committees including Community Services, Housing, Environmental Services and Public Works, Waverley Surf Life Saving, the Bondi Forum, Bondi and Districts Chamber of Commerce, and has been the Chair of many of them.

Joy was a very successful business woman. She was Director of QB Opals and is very well regarded by the industry. She is a Past Federal President/Director of the Australian Opal and Gem Industry Association and a Life Member and Past Director/Secretary Opal Association. She is considered to be an international specialist in Queensland Boulder Opal, Rough and Cut Opal and Opal Fossils.

During Joy’s time on Council she was a passionate advocate for the cleanliness of the Bondi area, working with local Members of Parliament on Graffiti Removal Day and Clean Up Australia Day each year. Her priority was to see Waverley be a clean and pristine place, targeting removal of Graffiti and Bill Posters, and to see the prompt removal of all dumped rubbish on our streets.

Joy is a Life member of Easts Leagues and City Tattersall’s Club. She is a Member of the Bondi Icebergs, Bondi Junction Waverley RSL and former member of the Rose Bay RSL and the Australian 18 Footers League Ltd. She is also a member of the Waverley Historical Society and a member and Vice President of the Waverley Community & Seniors Association.

Joy currently volunteers at the Waverley Customer Service Centre as a Justice of the Peace. This free service is organised by the Justice Association and Waverley Council.
