Prue Cancian - The Greens (2008 – 2012)

“ Being active in your community is the way to bring about change both locally and globally”

Prue Cancian moved to Waverley when studying a Diploma of Education at the University of New South Wales. She later lived at Charing Cross and currently lives in Bondi.

Prue is the Chairperson of the Waverley Woollahra Art School and is involved in the life and initiatives of the school. She also practices drawing and printmaking with the school.

She first ran for Waverley Council in 1987 and 1991 before being elected in 2008 for the Greens party. Prue’s concerns around Bondi Beach plans, overdevelopment, heritage preservation and the values of Council at the time inspired her to run for Waverley Council. She was one of three Greens Councillors at the time. Prue was particularly focused on Tamarama Park during her time in Council as well as the establishment of community gardens and advancing bushcare initiatives. Prue recalls campaigning with the community and Jack Mundey to try and Save Tamarama Gully from overdevelopment as being a highlight of her time on Council.
