Megan Hales

Megan Hales is a visual artist based in Sydney. With a foundation in painting Hales’ practice finds absurdity and infantilism in marketed cultures, while identifying joy and cognitive dissonance in avenues of tourism, entertainment and advertising. Hales completed her Fine Art studies in 2014, with time spent at the Victorian College of the Arts, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the Australian National University in Canberra.

Hales recently exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2015 with Collaborating artists RCM, and won the Kid’s Choice Prize and the Andrea Stretton Memorial award for their kinetic artwork: The Bottles. In 2014 Hales exhibited at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), Melbourne’s NotFair: the emerging artists’ fringe of the Melbourne Art Fair curated by art critic Ash Crawford, and at Supergraph: Australia’s contemporary graphic art fair for which Hales was selected as Feature Artist. Further exhibitions include group shows at Blindside Gallery and Margaret Lawrence Gallery (Melbourne), Interlude gallery (Sydney) and a permanent acquisition at the Research School of Earth Sciences (Canberra).
