Climate Change
Urgent reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are required across all sectors of society. The sooner these are achieved, the sooner the impacts of climate change will be reduced, not only in Waverley but globally.
Waverley is striving to achieve Net Zero community emissions by 2035, and is providing infrastructure, education, financing support and leadership that reflects the community’s ambition for a safe climate while honouring the Climate and Biodiversity Emergency Declaration of 2019.
Council is providing the community with targeted support for renewables, energy efficiency and low emissions transport and leveraging incentives and advice to advance environmental upgrades across the community.
At the same time, we are responding proactively to those climate impacts that cannot be avoided, such as extreme weather events, and strengthening our capacity to adapt, build resilience and thrive through uncertainty.
