Making Waverley Nature Positive

restore regenerate resilience Being Nature Positive means halting and reversing the loss of nature so that species and ecosystems can be restored and recover. As a signatory to the Climate and Biodiversity Emergency, Waverley adopted an Urban Greening and Cooling Strategy in 2023 to guide decisions and investments that coordinate the protection and management of urban trees and vegetation to achieve new targets of 35% Green Cover by 2032, comprising of 20% canopy cover and 15% shrub and ground covers.

Waverley is home to rare and threatened species. Increasing tree canopy and understorey will maximise opportunities to support and connect local native animal and plant species and assist adaptation of natural systems to the impacts of climate change.
