Have you ever thought about sitting down with older family members and recording their stories? Or about how your loved ones could be treasure troves of historical information?
Most of the history books we read focus on the deeds of 'great people', but oral history reverses this. It aims to capture the stories, the times, and the daily lives of ordinary people - whether about recreation before the invention of television, family life and socialising, courtship and marriage, work and school, or any other facet of life. It offers a fascinating view into what life was like 'back in the day' - one that can be recorded, saved, and passed on for generations to come.
This workshop will give you a short and basic introduction to oral history and how you can record and preserve the stories of your own family members.
