Waverley is a diverse and vibrant area, reflecting a blend of cultures and backgrounds. According to the latest census conducted in 2021, Waverley has a population of 68,505.

Council monitors the census for information on population changes and community trends as this helps with the planning, development and coordination of services to meet the demands and expectations of our residents, visitors and workers in an always-evolving environment.

Here are some interesting statistics from the 2021 census:

  • 42% of residents were born overseas, with the top five countries of origin being the United Kingdom, South Africa, New Zealand, Brazil and the United States.
  • 21% speak a language other than English, with the top languages being Spanish, Russian, French, Portuguese, Italian and Mandarin.
  • With over 10,000 people, Waverley has the largest Jewish population of any Local Government Area in NSW.
  • 275 residents self-identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
