The Acting General Manager of Waverley Council, Cathy Henderson, has announced her resignation to take up a position with the City of Darebin in Melbourne.

Ms Henderson will be the City of Darebin’s new General Manager Community.

Ms Henderson, who joined Waverley Council as a director in May 2012, said although it was difficult to leave Waverley, she and her partner had decided to move back to Victoria for family reasons. Ms Henderson’s official position was Director Waverley Life, but she has been the Acting General Manager since early 2017.

“I have really enjoyed working with Waverley Council, the broader community and the staff,” she said. “It has been a wonderful privilege. I particularly want to thank the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillors for their support and leadership. And, of course, Waverley staff who have been an absolute delight.”

The Mayor of Waverley John Wakefield said he wished Ms Henderson all the best in her new role. “We recruited Cathy from the City of Port Phillip almost six years ago. She guided Council through the final phase of the Council merger process and through the recent Council election and change of mayoralty.

“She has shown strong leadership through a turbulent period and I have only praise for her,” Mayor Wakefield said. “She will be sorely missed. The City of Darebin show foresight in hiring Cathy.”

Mayor Wakefield said Council would announce a new Acting General Manager on 6 February and was currently undertaking a selection process for the permanent General Manager position. Mayor Wakefield said there was an excellent field of applicants and he looked forward to announcing the permanent appointment as soon as possible.
