A message from the Mayor

UPDATE 2.19pm Tuesday 14 April

I’d like to thank everyone who stayed at home over the long weekend and maintained social distancing when exercising in our public places.

It was a very different Easter and Passover for many, but if we all follow the Government’s restrictions, together we will make it to the other side.

Unfortunately, we did have to close the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk temporarily on Saturday after it became too congested despite our repeated calls for people to avoid the area.

The walk was open the rest of the weekend and we’ll continue to monitor visitor numbers and social distancing over the school holidays.

I’d like to remind everyone to please, stay at home as much as you can, and if you must go outside to exercise, please find quieter areas around your home. The last thing we want to be doing is restricting access to any more of our public spaces.

Our beaches remain closed and our staff are continuing to work closely with the Police to keep our public spaces safe.

A reminder that our beach closures apply to everybody. We ask people to please respect our Rangers and Lifeguards and obey signage. Our Rangers can fine people for accessing areas that are closed, including our beaches.

It is as if we are running a marathon in order to beat this deadly virus, so we must follow the Governments’ restrictions and advice. We are in a fortunate position in Australia where we are still permitted to go outside for essential activities, however, this could change if we become complacent about the COVID-19 risks. Remember, cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Waverley so we must work together to beat it.
