Curlewis Street partial building collapse

11 December 2020 | Council News

UPDATE 11.16am, Friday 11 December 2020

Waverley Council officers are assisting SafeWork NSW with their inquiries into a partial building collapse at around 5pm yesterday in Curlewis Street, Bondi.

No-one was injured in the collapse but the road was closed to traffic in both directions.

The collapse occurred next to a development site that is under the control of a development company and a private certifier. Council was not the certifier for the development.

Yesterday morning, Council officers received a request from neighbours to attend the site to discuss concerns about structural integrity to the building in relation to the adjoining development.

Council officers attended the site within two hours of receiving this request and following their inspection, issued immediate stop-work orders.

Council officers are working to make the site secure and will be assisting SafeWork NSW with their investigation over the next few days. A structural engineer from SafeWork NSW will also be on-site today.

Council will take whatever regulatory action is required pending SafeWork’s findings and its own investigations.
