On International Day of People with Disability, meet the team behind our Waverley Community Living Program (WCLP).

Established in 1985, WCLP provides services to support adults with disability to live fulfilling and independent lives. Living the Dream is a group of eight WCLP participants who meet regularly to work on projects that raise awareness of inclusion and human rights for people with disability. It is this group who created the video story, Our Vision for Inclusion.

Our Vision for Inclusion is a showcase of the WCLP participants addressing topics such as bullying, employment, relationships and social stigma faced by people with disability.

The stories of the participants are ones of resilience, love and laughter. Reflecting on her lived experiences as a person with disability, WCLP participant Jess said that some in society think "people with disability are from another planet... we’re not aliens, we’re human beings".

Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said the film is a vital acknowledgement of the valuable contribution people living with disability make to our community.

"Waverley Council is so very proud to continue to facilitate opportunities that give people with disability a voice and to celebrate acceptance and diversity. That’s what this film is all about," Mayor Masselos said.
