- Footpath improvements at Bronte
Footpath improvements at Bronte
25 March 2021 | Council News
25 March 2021
Waverley Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on our footpath improvements works at the intersection of Bronte Road and Pacific Street, Bronte.
Consultation opens today at Have Your Say Waverley and closes Thursday 22 April, 2021.
The intersection was identified as a hazardous crossing for pedestrians and in need of traffic calming treatments.
Council has developed four solutions to create a safer pedestrian experience and will construct the solution chosen by the community as the option best suited.
The options, including costings and construction timelines are:
Option 1: Concrete footpath down the western side of Bronte Rd and new kerbs
Cost: $150,000; construction time: approx. 2 months
To construct the footpath we will need to realign the kerb and gutter further into the street (as above in yellow). We are also suggesting building out the kerb on both sides of Pacific St and an island for a shorter crossing (green). This option increases the legal parking spots by one.
Option 2: New kerbs with pedestrian ramps
Cost: $60,000; construction time: approx. 1 month
To accommodate a safer crossing on Pacific St, Option 2 includes building new kerbs with pedestrian ramps. This option has no net loss or gain of legal parking spots.
Option 3: Combination of both Options 1 and 2
Cost: $210,000; construction time: approx. 2 months
We will build a new concrete footpath and kerb buildouts to allow for a safer crossing across both Pacific St and Bronte Rd. Option 3 will create a direct link for pedestrians onto the stairs and down towards Bronte Beach. This option has no net loss or gain of legal parking spots.
Option 4: Kerb blister and centre island construction ONLY
Cost: $30,000; construction time: approx. 1 month
This option is the simplest of the four. It slows the speed of vehicles but does not provide as improved pedestrian safety as the other options. As part of a previous project, this design was approved by Waverley Traffic Committee to calm the speed of vehicles. This option has no net loss or gain of legal parking spots.
To have your say, please nominate one of the four options via our survey at https://haveyoursay.waverley.nsw.gov.au/footpathimprovements
