A message from the Mayor these holidays
05 April 2023 | News
5 April 2023
On behalf of Waverley Council and my fellow Waverley Councilors, I would like to wish our community a happy and safe Easter, Pesach [Passover] and Ramadan.
This is an important time of the year to connect with family and friends and recognise our diverse communities in Waverley, our home by the sea.
Waverley is home to people from around the world and we welcome our many visitors to Waverley these school holidays.
If you are planning on visiting our beaches, please remember to always swim between the flags and follow instructions from our professional lifeguards, who wear blue uniforms. If you get into trouble in the water, signal for help and Float to Survive.
We have lots more safety tips on the beach safety section of our website, including beach safety in 15 languages.
If you witness an in-water emergency, please inform our Council Lifeguards, or if it is after hours, dial Triple Zero (000) and ask for the Police. Our current lifeguard patrols hours are 6am to 7pm at Waverley’s three beaches Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte.
If you are travelling on our roads, please observe all road rules and double demerit restrictions. Please be aware that 40km/h school zones are in force on all days which are not a weekend, a public holiday or a publicly notified school holiday for government schools and include school development days, also known as pupil-free days. See a safety message here from NSW Police about staying safe on our roads. For local updates, follow Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command on Facebook here.
Our school holiday program has lots of activities and events to keep students entertained at Bondi Pavilion, Waverley Library, Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre and the Waverley-Woollahra School of Arts. For more or to book, visit our What’s On page. You can read our media release here.
Our Waverley Customer Service centre hours during Easter are as follows:
- Welcome Centre, Bondi Pavilion, open 10am to 4pm daily over Easter (closed Good Friday 7 April).
- Spring Street, Bondi Junction, closed from 5pm Thursday 6 April, reopens 9am Tuesday 11 April.
- Call 9083 8000. This is a 24- hour service for urgent issues.
- For all non urgent issues please lodge a request here.
Again, from all of us at Waverley, have a safe and enjoyable holidays.
Councilor Paula Masselos
Mayor of Waverley
