End of an era: Waverley Council calls time on historic Council Chambers on Bondi Road
25 October 2024 | Council News
Waverley Council Chambers on Bondi Road has been centre of civic life of the Waverley community for over a century. Unfortunately, the building is no longer functional and does not meet modern safety standards or code with an unrepairable failed air conditioning system, significant water ingress and a lack of accessibility. Given the complexity and cost to remediate the existing building, the previous Council decided to close the doors.
Over the coming months Council will be working with its new Councillors to present options that will reimagine possibilities for the site. The community has a key role in this conversation, and Council looks forward to talking about its future plans in the new year.
Council Chambers based staff will now deliver core services in Bondi Junction with staff relocating to offices at Waverley Library and the Mill Hill Community Centre.
From October, our new Council will be meeting in the carefully restored Cloud Room in the Boot Factory building, part of the redeveloped Boot Factory and Mill Hill Community Centre Precinct. Meetings will continue to be livestreamed online.
All Council services remain open and unaffected. Council operates two Customer Service Centres at Spring Street Bondi Junction and Bondi Pavilion. Information on opening times and other ways to get in touch with Council are below.
Mayor Will Nemesh said “During this transition Council will continue to provide and deliver an excellent service to our residents and community”.
