A Place for Us - Creating space for community in Waverley
02 July 2024 | Council News
Explore free community events happening across iconic Waverley spaces this winter!
Community is at the heart of what Council does. Our priority is to create a strong, socially connected, and resilient community with plenty of opportunities for us to come together, be safe, and belong.
That’s why we are proud to put on a range of free events and provide dedicated community spaces, as well as a program of activities across our venues, created with the community in mind.
Family Fun Days across LGA hotspots
As well as ongoing programming at our iconic venues (below), we will be taking over local green spaces and streets this July for a series of family fun days. So clear your diaries for a day of free kids entertainment, activities and a sweet treat for the whole family:
- Sat 27 July, 11 am - 1 pm – Waverley Park
No need to register, just wrap up and rock up!
Something for Everyone at the Pavilion
A place for locals. A place for arts and culture. A place for fun. A place for us.
Whether you’re into art, music or just having fun, you’ll always find a great way to spend the day at Bondi Pavilion. Here’s just a selection of highlights free for the community this winter:
- Christmas in July: Drag Trivia wit Ruby Royale - a night of fun, laughter and friendly competition
- Waverley Art Prize – an exhibition of Waverley artists’ prize-winning work
- Bondi Story Room – immerse yourself in the real-life stories of Bondi
- Free Family Movies - enjoy Minions at the Pav's cosy theatre
- Lunchtime Concerts - free monthly gigs to enjoy with your lunch
Find out what's on at the Pavilion here.
Library Activities for Little Ones
A place for stories. A place for creativity. A place for learning. A place for us.
As well as our adult program of events at the Library, we’re proud to run weekly activities for little ones, including:
- Book Babies - introducing your babes in arms to the magic and joy of stories and rhymes
- Story Time Fun – capturing the imaginations of toddlers and pre-schoolers with stories, rhymes and craft
- Rocking Rhyme Time - a high-energy morning of dancing, music, rhymes, and stories
Active Seniors Sessions at Margaret Whitlam
A place for sports and rec. A place for wellness. A place for Seniors. A place for us.
The Margaret Whitlam Centre is a sports and recreational space for all to enjoy and host a regular program of activities to support seniors in improving their physical and mental health:
- Table Tennis
- Tai Chi
- Pilates
- Yoga
- Strength and conditioning
Find out more here.
We will also be putting on a Musical High Tea for Seniors, with the Mayor and Di Bird Trio, on Friday 19 July at Easts. Register here.
Coming soon… The Boot Factory
A place for innovation. A place for sustainability. A place for connection. A place for us.
We’re nearly finished restoring and upgrading the Boot Factory on Spring Street in Bondi Junction. Breathing new life into the building, we are transforming the former shoe-making factory into a place for the community.
To celebrate, we’re giving you the chance to win one of two $1000 Westfield gift vouchers by designing your very own Waverley boot.
Competition closed: Well done to our winners who we announced on Facebook and Instagram.
As well as being #APlaceForUs, the Boot Factory will be a place that champions local innovation, sustainability, and connection.
We’re so excited to introduce a new community venue to Waverley and – in the meantime – we can’t wait to see your creations.
