Bondi Junction Tragedy

" "

The NSW Government, Waverley Council, Scentre Group (owner of Westfield in Australia and New Zealand) and the community will together observe one year since the Bondi Junction tragedy.

On Saturday 13 April 2024, the Bondi community was deeply impacted by a tragic act of violence at Westfield Bondi Junction, where 6 innocent lives were lost in devastating circumstances.

As we reflect one year on, commemorative display boards will remember the victims and recognise the community’s response in the days following the tragedy. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the display boards at Oxford Street Mall to take a moment to reflect, remembering those lost and the overwhelming support shown by the community. The display will be available from the morning of Thursday 10 April to the afternoon of Wednesday 16 April.

The commemorative boards will feature a collection of photographs, images, and messages gathered from tribute sites, as well as moments from the candlelight vigil held at Bondi Beach on Sunday 21 April.

Our thoughts are with the victims’ families, those injured, first responders, community members, and all whose lives were forever changed.

If you are feeling affected by the anniversary of this tragedy, please reach out to a mental health service. For free mental health support, visit NSW Mental Health services and support contact list.
