Waverley Council was the proud recipient of a Publications Award at the National Trust Heritage Awards last week.
Now in its 23rd year, the National Trust Heritage Awards are the signature event of the Australian Heritage Festival.
Waverley Council, in collaboration with Weir Phillips Architects, received a Publications Award for a series of Inter-war Fact Sheets.
The Fact Sheets cover a range of topics guiding the ongoing management and care of Inter-War Residential Flat Buildings within the municipality.
“I am so pleased the hard work of our Urban Design and Heritage team has been acknowledged through this prestigious award.” Mayor Betts said.
“So many people love the architecture of our wonderful flat buildings in Waverley, constructed in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Waverley buildings include examples of art deco heritage, but also many other types of architectural styles.
“The Fact Sheets are designed to provide useful information on maintaining and altering period residential flat buildings for individual owners, managers and those doing work on the building.”
The awards are highly regarded in the industry with more than 300 organisations and individuals submitting entries this year.
This is not the first time Weir Phillips Architects have been acknowledged for their high quality architectural design work in Waverley.
In 2014, Director James Phillips, received a commendation in the Waverley Design and Heritage Awards for his heritage conservation work on the Lurline building in Bondi Beach.
The 2017 awards were presented on 28 April 2017 during a luncheon ceremony at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf in Sydney.
The Australian Heritage Festival is supported through funding from the Australian Government’s National Trusts Partnership Program.
