Parking review sees many positive changes

02 August 2017 | Media Release

Waverley Council has introduced several positive changes to parking in the last two years including the
2015 Parking Price Review and the Residential Parking Scheme (RPS) Rezoning. Following these changes,
Council will soon be introducing Daily Visitor Parking Permits, offering affordable all-day parking to
family and friends of residents.

  • In 2015, Council conducted a review of its on-and off-street parking prices which resulted in the
    following key benefits:
free parking in Bronte Cutting during the winter months of June, July and August
  • free parking in the Bondi Beach car park after 7pm during the winter months of June, July and
    August
  • the free parking period at the Library car park increased to two hours for users of the Library
    and Mill Hill Seniors Centre.
Council then began an ambitious rezoning project to reduce the number of residential parking areas
from 23 to 11 by combining several smaller areas.

The Mayor of Waverley, Sally Betts said that the rezoning has allowed our residents to park within a
larger area, increasing access to available parking spots.

Rezoning is now finalised and Council will be introducing Daily Visitor Permits that will enable eligible
householders within a Residential Parking Scheme (RPS) area to provide their visitors and guests with a
permit which allows free parking for the day.

“Daily Visitor Permits were only available in Bronte which was clearly not fair to residents in other
suburbs,” said Mayor Betts. “I am really pleased that we have found a way to offer this facility to eligible
residents so that they will also be able to provide affordable all day parking to family and friends.”

“We know parking is a precious commodity here in Waverley and we want to make life easier for our
residents wherever we can. The Daily Visitor Permits will help take the stress out of parking for visitors.”

Permits will be available from 1 September and will be sold in packs of ten and cost $21 per pack. The
number of available permits per household is dependent on the capacity for parking in the RPS area.

Council has also introduced a 25% discount to the first Residential Parking Permit price for pensioners
and concession card holders and a 7-day Tradesperson Parking Permit to assist residents when they are
having work completed at their property.
