Some of Sydney’s best new talent is home grown, right here in Bondi.
Home Grown is a series of youth concerts that celebrates the wealth of singer talent in our community.
It showcases three artists each week at one of Sydney’s most iconic locations, Bondi Pavilion.
At three weekend concerts on 13, 20 and 27 May you’ll hear the best the Waverley area has to offer with its talent springing from diverse roots.
The bands include Dirty Sherbet, already veterans of the local band scene, combining classic, energetic rock with blues, indie and funk; Hot Heads, a local Bondi band on the rise who successfully competed for a coveted support spot on this year’s Shore Shocked Festival.
The young bands will be ably supported by more established musicians including Peruvian-born Richard Valdez who sings with most of the salsa and Afro-Cuban bands around Sydney and Declan Kelly who was head hunted by one of the best-known rhythm and blues bands - The Bondi Cigars.
The first event on 13 May puts girls out the front with Marina Da Silva, Syrup and Esme all taking to the stage.
Waverley Mayor John Wakefield said Home Grown was a great opportunity to support the area’s up and coming musicians.
“Waverley’s got talent,” Mayor Wakefield said.
“This is a great program with an excellent line up of young, local musos.
“The community told us they wanted a way to showcase the area's emerging artists. We listened and Home Grown is the result.
“I know everyone will be there to cheer these young people on as they make their way to the very top of the music scene,” Mayor Wakefield said.
