Waverley Council Chambers – Temporary Building Closure

28 June 2018 | Media Release

Media Statement

During routine maintenance work recently undertaken on the heating system at Waverley Council Chambers, a small amount of asbestos material was found. As a precaution, Council has temporarily closed access to the Chambers effective Tuesday 22 May, until it is confirmed the building is safe.

Council has made alternative location arrangements for staff usually located at Waverley Council Chambers, Corner Bondi Road and Paul Street, Bondi Junction during this time.

Acting General Manager, Peter Monks said, “The safety of our staff and the community is paramount, and we are being overly cautious to ensure this. We also wish to assure the community that measures are being put in place for essential services to minimise the disruption on our community’s interaction with Council.”

“We consider this to be a recent issue as the air-conditioning and heating systems are regularly inspected, and no material of this nature has previously been identified.”

SafeWork NSW has been notified of these works and Council advises that all safety measures will be followed to ensure the protection of the area.

The Customer Service Centre at 55 Spring Street, Bondi Junction, and Call Centre 9083 8000 are operating as usual.
