Waverley Council delivers vital community funding
26 May 2020 | Media Release
26 May 2020
Waverley Council’s Small Grants Program will this financial year help support 22 unique community projects including those providing innovative solutions to the challenges posed by the coronavirus restrictions, Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, today announced.
The recipients will share in funding of more than $82,000, with up to $5000 provided to each applicant, Mayor Masselos said.
“Waverley Council allocates funds of up to around $100,000 each financial year for small grants to give community members and groups the opportunity to take the lead on addressing issues and creating outcomes that are important to them,” Mayor Masselos said.
“Our Small Grants Program is just one of the ways we recognise and reward innovation, dedication and commitment to our community.
“The program has supported a range of diverse projects including a program to include children with autism in the Bondi Surf Life Saving Club’s Nippers training, new house emblems for Rose Bay Secondary College to acknowledge Waverley’s Indigenous heritage and a pet-adoption awareness event.
“Our latest recipients include WAYS Youth & Family, Waverley Historical Society, City East Community College and Our Big Kitchen.
“What our recipients have is common is their dedication to improving outcomes for the community and we congratulate them for the hard work that they do.”
Grants are allocated across three streams:
- Community and cultural grants: Individuals, community groups and services, sole traders and local businesses can apply with proposals that deliver identifiable social, cultural and recreational benefits to the Waverley community.
- Environmental grants: Schools, child care centres, incorporated community groups and local micro businesses can apply with proposals that contribute to a sustainable local community and environment.
- Creative streets grants: Individuals, community groups, precinct groups, schools and local businesses can apply with proposals that contribute to improving Waverley's streetscapes.
