- Boost to pedestrian safety in Tamarama
Boost to pedestrian safety in Tamarama
23 March 2022 | Media Release
23 March 2022
Waverley Council will be undertaking pedestrian safety works in May along Tamarama Marine Drive, Tamarama.
Tamarama Marine Drive is a key stretch of road along the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk which attracts more than one million visitors each year.
A key part of the project is replacing the existing pedestrian island opposite the bus stop with a permanent raised pedestrian crossing. The two existing bus shelters will also be upgraded to increase visibility and enhance pedestrian safety.
Six light poles will also be removed from the Gully side of Tamarama Marine Drive and replaced with energy-efficient, dimmable light poles on the footpath side of the road.
The works are being funded by the Federal Government via the Transport for NSW Road Safety Improvement Program.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said Waverley Council is committed to improving pedestrian safety throughout the LGA and beautifying our outdoor spaces.
“Waverley has lots of high pedestrian activity areas within just nine square-kilometres, including along the Coastal Walk, and calmer traffic will help create a safer community,” Mayor Masselos said.
Residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback on these safety improvements before plans are finalised. To provide feedback, visit haveyoursay.waverley.nsw.gov.au/tamarama-marine-drive-marine-drive. Feedback closes Wednesday 13 April 2022.
