One Table, Many Cultures at The Global Table 2023
06 May 2023 | Media Release
6 May 2023
The Global Table, Waverley Council’s annual celebration of Waverley’s vibrant cultural diversity through food, music, and dance returns to Oxford Street Mall, Bondi Junction tomorrow from 11am to 4pm.
There will be with a variety of cuisine and performances from musicians and dancers from around the globe, with the community invited to pull up a chair at our 35-metre-long communal table and enjoy the sights and sounds of our different cultures in Waverley.
This event is for everyone, whether you're a foodie, a music lover, or simply someone who enjoys exploring new cultures.
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said after the challenging years of lockdowns, it's wonderful to provide opportunities for the community to come together in a shared experience and to promote our cultural heritage and support our local businesses.
"Global Table is a celebration of diversity and friendship through the universal language of music and food from around the world," Mayor Masselos said.
"Many cultures will be represented tomorrow alongside our Aboriginal cultures, from Ethiopia, Turkey and Italy to Argentina, Spain and Mexico.
"Council-run community events such as Global Table are so important for bringing the community together and celebrating our diversity.
"Waverley is a multicultural community where one in five residents speak a language other than English and 40 per cent of residents were born overseas."
There will be entertainment until 4pm with performances by Diramu, Suara Indonesian Dance Group, Syrenka – Polish Folkoric Ensemble, Chinese, Sri Lanka, Mexican with Victor Valdes, Polynesia, African Drum and Maori.
We also have a Kids Zone with lots of free activities including Free Craft activities with the Girl Guides and Face Painting.
