Waverley Council achieves major move forward in affordable housing

In the most significant expansion of its affordable housing portfolio in over a decade, Waverley Council acquired a six-unit apartment block at 49 Mitchell Street, Bondi Beach this week.  This is a momentous win for the community, gaining additional high-quality housing in a very convenient location, funded from developer contributions through Council’s affordable housing reserve.

Waverley Mayor Will Nemesh said “housing is a huge issue within the community and this purchase highlights Council’s strong commitment to ensure our residents have housing availability irrespective of their economic circumstances.

“This is part of Waverley Council’s ethos of being a welcoming and inclusive community. The purchase of additional affordable housing has been a key priority for my team and I am proud to have delivered this for our community.

“In the six months since becoming Mayor, I have also committed to delivering an additional six more dwellings into our affordable housing portfolio through the renovation of existing stock.

“I will continue to champion good housing policy and implement practical solutions to improve housing outcomes for our community.”

A key component of Waverley Council’s affordable housing program is offering a high standard of living that provides both amenity and convenience. The new property at 49 Michell Street property is ideal, being close to the Bondi shopping hub, essential services and transport.

Waverley Council is proactively committed to a more liveable and equitable future, delivering more affordable housing dwellings to the community than at any other time in the last decade.
